Child Marriage

Child marriage, which is a serious case in our culture, still exists allowing children to marry under the age of 18 with parental consent.  This practice still continue in many rural families  as it is believed to be in the children’s best interest, or even, what they feel they must do to survive in cases of extreme poverty.

Child marriage is deeply rooted problem in the traditions of the rural Amhara communities. Since the outcome of this situation is very detrimental to young children, our community must change completely this culture.
