According to UNICEF reports in 1991, 1 million urban poor children were at high risk of becoming street children. In Ethiopia some estimates put the number of street children from 150,000 to 200,000.

Children with physical and mental disabilities in Ethiopia are estimated to reach 2.7million.

According to the Ministry of Health, 9% of children between the age of 15-49 years are reported HIV positive (3.2 million people infected in Ethiopia, which is 10% of the world’s total)

The Current estimate of AIDS orphans is 750,000 and may increase to 980,000 by 2002 and to 2.1 million by 2014. Cumulative AIDS death /estimate/, 1.2 million in 2000, 1.7 million by 2002, 3.55 million by 2014.
